Too hot for pumpkins?

September 19, 2016

It may be pushing 90 degrees, but once September hits, the pumpkins come out in the Medlin house. Pumpkin decor and pumpkin spice delicacies. Let's be honest, who really waits until Sept. 22nd to start the Harvest season, especially when Starbucks' PSL makes it's grand return on Sept. 6th?! OK, so maybe I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Frappe so I didn't have a heat stroke while indulging, but still.

Having a husband with a sweet tooth like mine has done a number on my baking skills. I have always enjoyed cooking and baking, but in the midst of chaos and busy schedules, baking has become more of a hobby, and a relaxing one at that.

A few weeks ago, I tried my hand at homemade pumpkin bread. I'll be honest, the first batch was thrown in the trashcan. I got a little too fancy and tried to make a crumb topping that ended up making the bread too moist. An hour and half later the bread was still not done and actually caved in when it came out of the pan. Instead of throwing in the towel, I went back to the store for round two. It was an intense pregnancy craving, y'all. Forty-five minutes of baking later, the most perfect loaf bread (minus the crumb topping) came out of the pan and made it's way into my mouth. Delicious!

When the two men in my life, my daddy and husband, say it's the best they've ever had, I know I did something right. Especially when my husband doesn't really like pumpkin. So that leads me to this little venture. While I'm wrapping up my interior design projects in anticipation of my sweet little girl, I've been thinking of what hobbies I can do from the comfort of my house on the quiet days. This fall season, I'm taking orders from family, friends and neighbors for baked goods made with love.  Maybe you're a busy mom who never has time to bake, or maybe your baking sends others running. Whatever the case, take these sweet treats to your next dinner party, tailgate or just self indulge on a Friday night! Delivery services available for my Wake County friends.
